Multi-sensory approach explored at autism event

Autism support professionals and parents of autistic kids benefitted from a two-hour workshop hosted by Tomorrow's Voices Autism Centre. The workshop, aimed to strengthen the skills and knowledge of teachers, occupational and speech therapists, was facilitated by Julie Dunstan. The executive director of The Reading Clinic explored multi-sensory approaches designed to help children overcome their learning obstacles and celebrate their talents. She also gave attendees ideas and strategies to help children learn and grow.Erica Smith, the autism centre's chairwoman, said last week's event was an excellent learning opportunity.“It also was a great opportunity to partner with another not-for-profit charity that we highly respect. We anticipate the partnership continuing on other initiatives,” she said. The autism centre will be hosting another event that teaches participants how school failure is linked to future problems with the law, on February 23.l Anyone interested in attending future workshops should contact Kimberly Mills on 297-4342 or send an e-mail: tomorrowsvoices[AT]northrock.bm.
