Charges against police officer dropped

Domestic violence charges have been dropped against a female police officer.Marina Jean-Pierre had been accused of assaulting her former boyfriend and fellow officer Chief Inspector Hashim Estwick.The Crown this week withdrew its charges against 33-year-old Pc Jean-Pierre.Ch Insp Estwick, 48, will still face charges relating to an alleged offence on April 7 at a Warwick residence.Crown counsel Garrett Byrne said the two were jointly accused, but charges against the more junior officer were dropped following a review of the file.Pc Jean-Pierre, who won the category of top female bodybuilder earlier this month, has been retained as a witness in Ch Inspector Estwick’s August 19 trial.A police spokesman didn’t confirm if she had been returned to normal duty. Bermuda Police Service rules do not allow anyone with a criminal conviction to serve.
