Dillas just makes the cut

Relieved man: Dillas

Jarryd Dillas did just enough to make the cut at the Latin American Amateur Championships yesterday.

The Bermuda golfer’s second round six-over-par 78 left him eight over for the tournament in a tie for 60, the last place for making the weekend.

It was touch and go for Dillas who was below the cut line at one point, and bogeys at 14 and 15 looked like they might have cost him dearly.

Those bogeys came immediately after his sole birdie of the day at 13, which did nothing to wipe out a terrible run of holes around the turn where Dillas had double bogeys at 9 and 11, and a bogey at 10, which put him five over for his round after he had parred the first eight holes.

Dillas’s countrymen, Mark Phillips and Fraser Hunt, were not so fortunate, second successive rounds of five over for the pair left them at 10 over for the tournament at Pilar Golf Club in Argentina, two shots shy of the cut line.

At the right end of the leaderboard Andre Tourinho, of Brazil, is eight under and holds a slender one shot lead over Joaquin Bonjour, of Argentina, and Matias Dominguez, of Chile. One shot further back at six under is Juan Alvarez of Uruguay.
