Please put banners in trash after events

A reader found three discarded event banners dumped in bushes in Devonshire (Photograph supplied)

Dear Sir,

While I can certainly appreciate the need for event organisers to promote their events, this summer has seen a marked increase in the number of vinyl banners hung or nailed to walls at various junctions across the Island.

I had hoped the promoters were as efficient cleaning up their trash as they were putting up their banners.

At the end of my street there are three vinyl banners thrown in the bushes, apparently put there in the hopes that the garbage collection would pick them up.

From what I see even the trash men don’t want them and they have sat untouched for more than a couple of weeks.

Besides questioning the need to put banners in what is already a high-accident area — Tee St and Middle Road as well as other busy junctions across the Island — I also wonder why those who are putting these banners up can’t be bothered to dispose of them properly.

Aren’t advertisements of this type unlawful anyway?

The sponsors listed on the banners also probably wouldn’t be pleased with their logos being associated with trash being left irresponsibly.

In short, please take away your trash. We don’t want it and apparently the trash men don’t want it either.
