Gerardo’s tough start

Jarryd Dillas will open the defence of his Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship title againt Jose Luis Gerardo at Mid Ocean Club this morning.Gerardo shot an 83 in yesterday’s second qualifying round to just make it into the championship flight of the tournament. He got a match against the top seed for his troubles.The pair will be the last group out at 10.48am, with tee-times starting at 7.44am.Meanwhile, Nick Mansell, last year’s runner-up, continued his strong beginning to the week, shooting a three-under 68 to finish top of the men’s qualifying and bag the number two seed spot. Mansell begins his campaign against Teddy Terceira.Other first round matches of note in the championship flight see Dr Robert Vallis take on Ian Page, and Camiko Smith playing Tomasz Tabor.In the ladies championship, defending champion Katrin Burnie has a bye today, which means all eyes will be on likely challengers Kathy Lloyd-Hines and Tariqua Walikraam.Lloyd-Hines faces Shirley Leach, and former champion Walikraam takes on Sandy Hutchings.
