Golden wedding couple in love with Bermuda

Celebrating: David and Toby London

For American couple David and Toby London there was only one place to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

They have stayed in Bermuda 51 times since they first came to the Island in 1969, and there was no way they would be missing out on their annual June trip.

The couple arrived back in Bermuda from their Rhode Island home on Saturday — the day of their anniversary — and headed to Wahoos in St George’s to mark the occasion.

“There is nowhere else we would rather be,” said Mrs London.

“Wahoos is one of our most favourite places to eat in St George’s and we had a fantastic evening.

“We have been out and about on the moped exploring the Island as we always do and visiting the museums and beaches that we love so much.”

Mr and Mrs London met on the college newspaper at Brown University in Massachusetts and got married on June 20, 1965, in White Plains, New York.

Their first trip to Bermuda when they stayed at the Hamilton Princes was prompted by a recommendation from an aunt and uncle who always holidayed in Bermuda.

Last week the The Royal Gazette featured an article on the couple’s love affair with the Island and their plans to return for their 50th anniversary.

“We have had complete strangers coming up to us and wishing us happy anniversary as a result of that first article,” said Mr London. “It has been amazing.”

“The people are the main reason we keep coming back, and this is just another example of why we love it so much here.

“We have been able to catch up with friends we have known for many years and had a great time as always.”

Mrs London added: “We will be back again in November for another holiday, and maybe in 10 years time we will be celebrating our 60th anniversary here as well. Let’s hope so.”

Over the past 30 years, Mr and Mrs London have brought more than 35 guests back to the island with them
