A jewellery designer has teamed up with a vintage clothing firm in a new venture.

Eleanor Patton, of Bermuda Rocks, has joined forces with vintage clothing company Dolly Pop Bermuda’s Alice Bennett-Johnson to open a pop-up shop on Front Street.

But Ms Patton said it was hoped that the venture — on site until mid-August — could become a permanent fixture.

Ms Patton, who has run her business since last year, added: “I was mostly online — I did Harbour Nights last year and a pop-up shop for a month in Petals the florists in Hamilton.

“This pop-up is just to gauge the long-term potential — we are hoping to stay permanently, but the current tenancy is to August 16.”

Ms Patton said she and Ms Bennett-Johnson, who founded Dolly Pop last year, became friends after she bought some clothes from her.

She added: “We developed a friendship and our businesses are both at the same point that we needed a more permanent location.

“My jewellery is very inspired by vintage design and it just felt like a complementary connection.”

Ms Patton spent several years working for Island goldsmiths and jewellers before starting her own business, which features precious metals and her signature sea glass, as well as one-off designs for exclusive engagement rings.

She said: “Business has gone very well and there’s a lot of interest.

“My designs are inspired by Bermuda and I use a lot of sea glass. It’s higher end jewellery and there is definitely a market for that.”

She added that she jewellery-making classes for people who want to create their own designs.

Ms Patton said: “A lot of people have expressed an interest in design so I started teaching as well.”

Ms Bennett-Johnson ran a pop-up shop in St George’s Water Street last year, selling unique fashion finds from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

She sources her clothes in thrift stores in Bermuda and overseas and has previously operated out of locations like My Sereni-Tea and TK Hair in Hamilton and Watford Sports Club in Somerset.

Ms Bennett-Johnson, who formerly worked in the international business sector, said: “This is taking it up to another level. Sharing with Eleanor meant we could be a bit more meaningful in terms of our investment structure and there’s definitely a bit of synergy.

“If we get the support we can evolve and if people want us to stay, we will stay. We’ve got two months to make a go of it and see if we’re well-received. I think we will be.”
