Black flag costs Cutler shot at podium

Top ten: Cutler and crew

Alec Cutler and crew of Hedgehog have secured a second straight top ten showing in the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series.

The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club skipper and past J-22 world champion placed sixth among the formidable 18-boat Melges 32 fleet at the Audi-Tron Sailing Series in Porto Venere, Italy that concluded yesterday in moderate and shifty breezes.

Cutler entered the sixth and final race tenth on the leader board but managed to climb four places after securing a fourth-place finish.

A black flag for going across the starting line early in the fourth race coupled with a 17th place finish in the penultimate race put a major dent in Cutler’s bid for a place on the podium.

Still, the local skipper was pleased with his overall display and has already set his sights on the third stage of the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series to be held June 5-7 at the Riva Del Garda.

“Next event will be in windy Lake Garda and the Hogs are really looking forward to having a bit of a blow after this weekend,” Cutler said.

Cutler’s sixth place showing at Porto Venere followed on the heels of a seventh place display at last month’s 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series curtain raiser in Loano, Italy.

Edoardo Lupi-Massimo Pessina and crew of Torpyone claimed top honours in Porto Venere at the weekend with Gianiacomo Serena di Lapigio and crew of G-Spot taking second and Dalton DeVos and crew of Delta third.

DeVos, the youngest skipper in the fleet, won last month’s season opening regatta in Loano.
