Man jailed for indecent exposure
to prison for nine months yesterday.
Calvin Burrows of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to charges that he committed an indecent act and openly exposed his person on July 12.
Mrs. Brenda Rochester told the court she was driving past the Seventh Day Adventist School and Heron Bay MarketPlace in Southampton when she spotted Burrows exposing himself in the centre of the Middle Road bus shelter at 2 p.m.
"He was looking down... and smiling,'' she said.
Rochester said she called Police because she was worried that a little girl might spot Burrows.
P.c. Paul Lambert said he arrived at the shelter at 2.10 p.m. and found Burrows still with his penis partly exposed. He then arrested him.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles said Burrows had a number of convictions on similar charges dating back to 1982.
"Well you just have to learn that you can't do these things,'' Magistrate the Wor. John Judge told Burrows before sentencing him.
For the indecent act, Mr. Judge ordered that Burrows spend nine months in prison and for openly exposing his person he imprisoned him for six months. He allowed the sentences to run concurrently.
