Queen’s Club prove invincible

The untouchables: Matt Garrod, Mike Zimmerman, Chance McLean (capt), Robert Tota, Karl Wilson and Chris Nelson

Queen’s Club Kings retained their Bermuda International Pool League title without losing a single game.

The Kings completed the season with an unblemished 26-0 record — a feat Chance McLean, the team’s captain, believes is unprecedented.

“As far as I know no one has ever won the league undefeated,” he said. “I am very proud of the team and it feels very good to be a part of history. We have been very close to going undefeated in a season several times before, but never achieved it.”

The Kings retained their title with victory over interclub rivals, Queen’s Club Dragons, in their season finale.

“We had already won the league but we wanted to finish the season unbeaten,” McLean said. “It was a very good game, they didn’t lay down and play dead.”

McLean attributes the team’s success to harmony, with each member pulling for the other, especially when the chips are down.

“We don’t argue or get mad with each other,” McLean said. “Harmony has always been our biggest strength. We have been playing together for quite a while now so the chemistry is there.”

The only addition to the team last season was Robert Tota, the former Devonshire Colts footballer.

Having reinforced their status as the league’s dominant team, McLean and his team-mates have already set their sights on next season.

“We are going to try to do it all over again with the same team,” he said.

The Kings have scheduled a trip of Las Vegas this month where their players will get an opportunity to test themselves against overseas opposition.
