Westchester stretch lead
today's final round of the Goodwill Tournament.
The team from New York state shot a net 58 at Riddell's Bay in yesterday's third round for a 54-hole total of 174 and will round off their tournament today at Port Royal.
And with professional Kevin Morris leading their four-man team, regular participants Westchester, whose best finish yet was a joint second, have every right to be confident.
Morris was runner-up in the Goodwill Professional Tournament at Port Royal on Wednesday, carding 68 before losing a play-off which went to five holes against Ron Philo.
Joint overnight leaders Suffield Country Club yesterday scored a 63 at Port Royal for a three-round total of 179 and they will finish at Castle Harbour today.
They share second place with Port Royal who strengthened the local challenge with a remarkable round of 56 -- the best at Castle Harbour yesterday.
Professional Frankie Rabain will lead the Port Royal team into their final round at the Mid Ocean Club today, backed up by Michael (Tracey) Tavares, Leon James and Francis Mussenden.
A shot further back on 180 are Bedrock Golf Club, led by the popular Joe Carr, as well as Marshfield Country Club and Waccabuc Country Club.
Southampton Princess are the next best placed local team, after their 64 at Castle Harbour yesterday left them on 181.
In the gross division, Metuchen Golf and Country Club emerged as leaders with a 54-hole total of 194, giving them a two-stroke lead over the Country Club of Vermont, Navesink and Crystal Springs.
