Vasco halt losing streak
Vasco climbed four places up the Premier Division tables with their first win in four league outings last night at BAA Field.
The match was over as a contest by the half with Vasco leading 3-0 after Clay Smith had a hand in Diallo Sharrieff's opener after 13 minutes and then scored the next two himself to take his tally to five goals in two games.
The loss ended a run of four straight wins for Rangers who could slide further down the standings after this weekend's games.
After Rangers had the first chance of the match in the third minute which Nashon Smith sidefooted over the top following an Omari Hart cross, Vasco took the lead 10 minutes later when Sharrieff scored from close range after Keith Jennings' corner on the left was knocked down by Smith.
It was from another Jennings corner on the left side that Vasco doubled their lead in the 33rd minute, this time Smith scoring with a free header at the far post.
Smith extended the lead with the best goal of the game in the 42nd minute when he scored with a right-foot curling shot from outside the penalty area.
Vasco threatened to add just as many goals in the second half when Chris Anderson scored the fourth in the 58th minute. But the credit for the goal should go to midfielder Kuma Smith whose chip behind the Rangers defence was perfectly weighed for Anderson to run on and tuck a low shot into the far corner.
Rangers battled to at least keep the scoreline close as they went close with a long range shot from Jason Raynor that was tipped over the bar by Timmy Figureido. Then Sheridan Ming's shot was blocked by the 'keeper for a corner.
Substitute Janeiro Tucker finally pulled a goal back for Rangers four minutes from the end, though by that time the points were already in the bag.
