Plans to erect temporary housing rejected
Plans to temporarily house 84 foreign construction workers at the Bermuda National Sports Centre on Frog Lane have been struck out by the Development Applications Board (DAB).
The centre has been refused permission to erect temporary, pre-manufactured homes for the workers preparing to build the centre's central core at No. 50, Frog Lane, Pembroke.
It was also refused permission to build an access ramp and perimeter walls and to demolish a storage building.
As the centre is on Government zoned land, the DAB has the discretion to refuse any development which is not part of or accessory to the principal use for which the area was established.
It deemed the pre-fab homes were not part of the National Centre and refused the entire application.
The Sports Centre's Board of Trustees chairman Gerard Bean did not comment on the decision.
However, he said the construction schedule would not be affected by the decision as it had other applications before the DAB yet to be decided upon and he was not anticipating any more problems.
