Making good decisions

Decisions. Have you given thought to the various ways you make your decisions? Many of them, such as driving to work or to the store, are based on habit and experience and take little thought. Others we often do in a reactive mode, where we do the first thing that comes into our minds.

This holds to the old saying - “first thoughts are best thoughts!” As we all have learned this is not always the case so we have to move to a process where we have to clarify the issue, identify and evaluate alternative courses of action, weight the positive and the negatives including what is the worst thing that can happen, and then make our decision.

The great thing is that even when we are not “right on the mark” we can re-evaluate and adopt a different method to achieve what we want and reach our goals. Practise doing the working through the issues process and get clearer ideas on the best decisions you can make!

“Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
