Boulevard 2 Somerset Eagles 3Somerset Eagles moved four points clear of the relegation zone after beating Boulevard in an enthralling encounter at BAA Field on Saturday night.Both team’s showed plenty of attacking brio but it was Eagles who grabbed the victory late on when Blazers goalkeeper Shejaun Swan fumbled a Shakir Smith cross over the line.Eagles took the lead on the half hour mark through striker Darrin Dowling whose shot took a deflection which wrong-footed keeper Swan en route to goal.Early in the second half Blazers levelled when burly striker Temiko Wilson, who proved to be nuisance for Eagles backline throughout, connected with Jason Davis’ pin-point cross from close range.Wilson was at it again midway through the second period when once he combined with the impressive Davis to power a back post header past Karl Brown in goal for Eagles.Blazers looked likely to score again before Troy Tucker struck against the run of play with a superb diving header from Smith’s centre. Tucker’s goal seemed to shift the momentum in Eagles’ favour with Daniel Andrade twice going close with powerful strikes from the edge of the box.With the minutes ebbing away Eagles struck a winner in fortuitous circumstances when Smith’s cross-come-shot from the right-wing was adjudged to have crept over the line to earn Eagles a valuable victory.Eagles player-coach Marlon Rojas hailed his young team’s never-say-die spirit and backed them to avoid the drop this season.“Like a rolling stone we seem growing with each game,” said the former Trinidad international. “I’ve seen these young player mature over the course of the season and we never usually have more than three of four players starting over the age of 23.“I’m not even been thinking about relegation this season because I believe we will be okay and are improving all the time.”Boulevard: S Swan, T Wilson, A Simmons, A Foggo, R Wilson, K Lathan, S Furbert, T Walker (N Smith, 55), J Crockwell (J Samuels, 74) J Davis.
