‘Menace’ banned from the roads for a year

A Warwick man who walked away from the scene of a crash has been banned from the road.

Odell Grant, 30, pleaded guilty to charges of driving without due care and attention, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a drivers licence and riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle.

The court heard that at around 4.30pm on December 18, Grant was travelling east on Mullet Bay Road in St George’s when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a blue car in the oncoming lane. Instead of exchanging information with the other driver, Grant reportedly walked away from the scene.

After pleading guilty to the offences, he told the court that the motorcycle belonged to a friend and he was trying to get to a job site.

“It was my fault,” he said. “I lost control of the bike.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Grant a total of $2,500 for the offences and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for a period of one year, calling him a “menace on the roads”.
