AWAC appoints four new VPs

Allied World Assurance Company has appointed four senior vice presidents, all of whom joined the company in 2002.

President and CEO Scott Carmilani said Gerald Browning, Thomas McKevitt, Rick Mello and Rob Moreno have all made a considerable contribution to Allied World globally and are responsible for the successful development in their respective areas. ?They are valued employees and deserve maximum recognition for their continued efforts,? he said in a statement.

Effective immediately, Mr. Browning will oversee the marketing and underwriting of all casualty facultative operations as SVP Casualty Facultative Reinsurance. Since joining AWAC in 2002, he has established the only dedicated casualty facultative reinsurance operation in Bermuda underwriting US risks.

His three decades of experience includes underwriting and management positions at Highlands Insurance, Alexander & Alexander, RFC Intermediaries, Sedgwick Re and Hartford Specialty Insurance. He received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University.

Mr. McKevitt will oversee the underwriting of the North American Property Pro Rata and Per Risk Reinsurance portfolios as SVP Property Treaty Reinsurance. He previously worked for Odyssey America Re as VP in the Property Treaty Department. Additional industry experience includes working as Treaty Underwriter for Constitution Re, Property Facultative Underwriter for General Re, and Senior Property Underwriter for Aetna Life and Casualty. He graduated from the University of Rochester and holds a Bachelor?s degree in Economics and Political Science.

Bermudian Mr. Mello joined AWAC as VP Administration and will now oversee and manage functions relating to human resources and general administration including marketing and communications as SVP Human Resources & Administration. He began his insurance career with AIG in Bermuda in 1968 and has also worked in the US with American Life Insurance Company (ALICO), an AIG subsidiary, and held various positions in Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, including CEO of AIG?s subsidiary in Nigeria and General Manager of AIG?s life insurance operation in Russia. He obtained his BA and MBA from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and has earned the FLMI designation.

Mr. Moreno becomes SVP North American Casualty Treaty Reinsurance.

He has over 30 years of industry experience and was most recently at Everest Re Group (formerly Prudential Re) where he served in various underwriting and management roles including SVP and COO of Everest Security Insurance Company, an affiliate of Everest Re. Other industry experience includes Underwriting Manager, NRG Antillean Re and brokerage roles with Greig Fester North America and InterOcean Agency. In his current assignment, Rob oversees AWAC?s North American General Casualty treaty portfolio. He is a graduate of Colgate University.
