The World Insurance Forum (WIF) has donated $100,000 to the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies (BFIS) to assist young Bermudians pursuing careers in the insurance industry.

Now in its tenth year, BFIS aims to ensure that over time Bermuda?s insurance companies have a pool of well-educated Bermudian staff to draw from.

?We are delighted to accept this donation from the World Insurance Forum that will be of enormous assistance in meeting our goals,? Catherine Lapsley, executive director, BFIS said.

The World Insurance Forum is a non-profit organisation sponsored by the insurance industry.

The aim of the WIF is to provide a forum for discussion and debate among leading executives on critical issues facing international insurance and reinsurance markets.

Any surplus funds generated from the proceeds are used to provide financial support for academic and professional training within the insurance industry.

The seventh WIF held two months ago in Bermuda was attended by speakers and delegate CEOs from leading international insurance and reinsurance companies.

Mr. Michael Butt, Chairman of the WIF Advisory Committee said: ?It is a pleasure for us to provide this support to BFIS, who perform an important role in providing the training essential to ensure the development of young Bermudians in the insurance industry.?

The Foundation offers scholarships to Bermudians studying insurance, risk management, finance, economics, actuarial science and maths and the Foundation also provides mentoring programmes, internships and career advice.

The sponsors of the 2006 World Insurance Forum were: Agile Technologies, AIR, AIG, AXIS, Bloomberg, Cable & Wireless, Catlin, Endurance, EQECAT, HBC Adjusting, Investors Guaranty, Marsh, Max Re, Navigant Consulting, PartnerRe, PWC, PXRE, RenaissanceRe, RMS, The Sullivan Group, Towers Perrin, Willis, and XL.
