On January 21, 2010, T. N. Tatem Middle School held its annual reading celebration sponsored by the English and Language Arts Department.

The day is organised every year as a way to get everyone thinking about reading and how much fun it is.

There was a book fair and a T-shirt design competition. In preparation for the event, some students designed posters advertising the day: "Literacy Day Celebration: Reading Suits You to A Tee."

Mrs. Gorham suggested the theme after seeing how well it went at her daughter's reading day celebration at Somerset Primary School.

Students and teachers had to decorate a T-shirt based on their favourite book. In the afternoon, the top T-shirts were selected by advisers to go on to the final round.

Two students won a prize from each year level for having the most creative and well-decorated shirt.

Congratulations to all the winners. Winners from M1 were Daneko Hayward ('The Indian in the Cupboard') and Jordyn Ming ('Money Hungry'). M2 winners were Patricia Costa ('Madison Finn'), Diana Arruda ('Girl Overboard'), and Bianca Benevides ('Web of Dreams').

The M3 winners were Tyra Stoval ('Twilight Saga'), K'la Simmons ('Twilight: New Moon'), and Cristia Maxwell (Honourable Mention for 'Care Bears', a book she reads to her siblings).

All of the students look forward to it again next year.
