Bermudian honoured with MBE at Buckingham Palace

A Bermudian who left the country to live in England 50 years ago has been awarded an MBE.Former badminton coach Carlton Darrell, from Thurrock, in south east England, went to Buckingham Palace to receive his MBE in honour of 50 years service to the community from Prince Charles.According to his local paper The Yellow Advertiser, the 71-year-old said: “The day was absolutely fantastic, it was the best day of my life. It has been quite a year, one that will never be forgotten, I have lived my dreams!”Mr Darrell received his MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in June after being nominated by close friend Gillian Moore.After leaving Bermuda he taught in primary schools and helped to run Thurrock Badminton ClubFollowing the ceremony, he celebrated with lunch at the Oxo Tower, a West End Show and a stay in the Savoy Hotel.
