Southampton Rangers 157 Somerset CC 158-6

Ten-men Somerset handed Southampton Rangers a three-wicket loss at Southampton Oval yesterday to kick off the revised Open League schedule on a winning note.

Led by seamers Jacobi Robinson and Jordan DeSilva, who shared six-wickets between them, the visitors restricted Rangers to a paltry total.

Early order bat Jermaine Warner then grafted an unbeaten 67 to see the West Enders safely home in 39.4 overs.

Warner was dropped on 12 and Rangers paid a heavy price for their clumsiness as the veteran batsman helped himself to a maiden half-century of the season, batting with the aid of a runner after earlier pulling his hamstring in the field.

Others in double figures were Dwight Basden (26) and Hasan Durham (18) who added 64 runs for the fourth wicket with Warner.

Medium pacer Jason Wade (3-37) was the pick of the Rangers bowling.

Earlier, Andrew Raynor smashed a run a ball 51 and shared in a 41 run seventh-wicket stand with Kwame Tucker (30) after the destructive DeSilva (three for 26) and Robinson (three for 48) reduced Rangers to 43 for six in the 12th over.

Tailender Shannon Raynor belted 29 off 25 deliveries before he was caught in the deep off left- arm spinner Durham who had one for 22.

Somerset Bridge 132 St.George's 133-4

Troy Hall claimed four wickets and Ryan Steede hit an unbeaten 34 to inspire St.George's to a six-wicket win over Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field.

Medium pacer Hall bagged four for 30 and along with Machai Hodsoll (two for nine) restricted Bridge to a modest total after being sent to bat.

Donnie Charles topped the Bridge batting with 29 while Shawn Riley and Bilal Lambert chipped in with 18 apiece.

St.George's were never really bothered in reply with former skipper Herbie Bascome (24), assistant Boulevard coach Richard Todd (15), Damon Walker (18) and youngster Chris Burgess (24 not out) also making useful contributions with the bat. Berkeley Institute student Burgess batted with great maturity and along with Steede carried St.George's to victory via an unbroken 33 run fifth wicket stand.

Noel Woods, Wayne Ball, Lambert and Kirk Simons took one wicket each for hosts Bridge.

Willow Cuts 118 –Devonshire 119-4

Debutants Mackie Crane and Chris Foggo wasted no time making their presence felt at new club Devonshire at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

Fast bowler Crane took four for 40 before passing the baton to ex-St.David's Islander and national team player Foggo who stroked a fluent 45 from 50 balls to complete the visitors comfortable six-wicket win over Cuts.

Others in double figures for the visitors were Allan Butterfield (26), Derrick Brangman (27 not out) and Toriano Henry who added 14. Medium pacer Kevon Fubler was Cuts' most successful bowler with figures of two for 12.

Earlier, Devonshire had Cuts in all sorts of trouble at 66 for 6 after being sent in to bat.

That the hosts surpassed the century mark owed much to some robust hitting from Bergon Spencer who smashed 42 from 31 balls, batting at number nine.

Skipper Sheroy Fubler weighed in with 20 while Ryane Shepperd added 24 at the top of the order.

Aiding Crane in the bowling were spinner Brangman (three for 30) and veteran seamer Wilbur Burt (three for 19) who shared six-wickets between them.

Bermuda Under-19s 202-9

Bermuda Under-19s' 2009 World Cup qualifying preparations received a boost when they defeated Premier Division outfit Somerset by one-wicket in a 50 over contest at Somerset Cricket Club on Saturday.

Guiding the youngsters to victory in an enthralling affair that went right down to the wire was early order bat Kamul Leverock and fast bowler Stefan Dill.

Leverock blasted a classy 73 and added 82 runs for the second wicket with Terryn Fray who stroked a polished 54.

Earlier, Dill claimed three for 36 and was assisted by medium pacer Latiff Trott who seized two for 28 as Somerset were kept below the double century mark. Jacobi Robinson top scored for Somerset with an unbeaten 78.

In reply, Bermuda Under-19's were cruising along to victory at 150 for three when Somerset clawed their way back by picking off four wickets in the space of –20 runs.

But an unbeaten 26 from the bat of Kevon Fubler put Bermuda Under-19s back on course for victory that was eventually achieved in the 47th over when the Willow Cuts all-rounder lofted veteran spinner Tony Cheeseman outside the ground for a mighty six.

Off spinner Marcus Johnson led the Somerset attack with superb figures of four for 36.
