is among a number of local referees who have been upgraded.

Wainwright, Gregory Belboda and Frank Drayton are a trio who have been promoted from Grade Two to Grade One while a number of others have been promoted from lower grades as well.

"I am very pleased to see that so many referees were able to satisfy our committee to the extent that they were able to reach the standard required for the particular grades,'' said referees director Aldwyn Savery.

The other promotions are as follows: From Grade Three to Two -- Gregory Grimes, Kenneth Perinchief, Gernot Wilke, Lawrence DeShields, Richard Knight, Lyndon Raynor. From Trainee to Third Grade -- Carlton Crockwell, Clarence Burrows, Gregory Simons, Jeffrey Trott.

Roddy Burchall was promoted from Grade Two to One earlier in the year. Esten Curtis is the only local FIFA-listed player with Rex Osborne now off the list as a result of the retirement age that has recently been reduced to 45.

Savery is particularly pleased because the promotions come at a time when the association is hard pressed to cope with the demands of the domestic schedule.

Such has been their plight that this season has for the first time seen Third and Second Grade officials being assigned to First Division games on a regular basis.

The director has recently stated the dilemma that they faced and has again renewed calls for assistance from clubs and former players, urging them to come forward to register as trainees.

"We are hoping that the promotions of a few of the younger referees will give them the encouragement and motivation to reach even greater heights,'' said Savery.

Among others he reckoned were destined for favourable recognition in the future were referees like Cal Simons and Peter Sousa.

Veterans like Savery himself and BFA president Charlie Marshall are no longer active in senior soccer but contribute in the junior divisions where Savery hopes others would make their presence felt as well. Another quite involved in the junior division is Glyn Gilbert.

"We would definitely like to see others like Mr. Gilbert, there are so many areas in local soccer where they can help,'' he said.

Meanwhile the BFA has confirmed that former national coach Gary Darrell and his assistant Fred (Pinks) Lewis were both successful in obtaining the International Full Badge coaching certificate. The duo were in England in August for the course.
