Conditional discharged for illegal dog breeder
A 45-year Sandys parish man was given a conditional discharge in Magistrates’ Court for illegally breeding his dog.Vernon Charles admitted breeding his Doberman pincher in August last year without a licence.Animals wardens executed a search warrant at his premises on August 21 last year acting on a tip that there were six pups there.Crown counsel Garrett Byrne said Charles told the warden he had a “bitch with six pups” but that all of the pups died.“He said he had a breeders’ licence, what he had was an application for a licence,” said Mr Byrne.Mr Vernon said he was guilty with an explanation. He told the court that he took the pregnant dog to the veterinarian because “she was dripping green fluid”.“The vet did a C-section and one of the pups was already dead inside of her, the rest of the pups died two days later,” he said.He said the dog “was getting old” and that he was also left with a $2,000 bill for the surgery.Charles was “very open and co-operative” throughout the investigation, Mr Byrne said.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner issued a conditional discharge and warned him to “obey the law”.Said Mr Warner: “You’re a dog person and you know the rules, the discharge is good for 12 months if you don’t do the same thing again.”Mr Vernon nodded his head and replied: “I’ve already got papers to bring in a new dog.”
