Bermuda lose again in Puerto Rico
Bermuda earned their first point at the Fed Cup in Puerto Rico yesterday.
But it was not enough to prevent them from going down to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bolivia in their second group C match.
Siblings Jacklyn and Tara Lambert defeated Hortencia BirnBaumer and Anellisse Torrico Moreno 6-2, 6-3 in the doubles.
Earlier, Bolivia clinched the best of three series with a game to spare after Tyler Smith, Bermuda’s No 1 player, and Jacklyn Lambert lost their singles matches against Maria Fernanda Alvarez and Daniela Sequel.
Smith went down 6-1, 6-2 against Alvarez.
Bolivia then clinched the series after Lambert lost 6-0, 6-0 to the relentless Sequel.
Bermuda’s Fed Cup campaign got off to a losing start against third-seeded Peru in their opening group C game on Wednesday.
The Islanders were always going to be the heavy underdogs in their match against the Peruvians.
Bermuda, who have a rest day today, will face winless Panama in their next round robin match tomorrow.
