Get ready men: grow your Mo for Movember
Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre 'moustache' you a question — are you ready to grow a Mo?Starting on Thursday, the centre’s annual Movember campaign will have men across the Island downing their razors in an effort to raise awareness about men’s health and cancers.Since the Movember campaign came to Bermuda in 2009, it has rapidly grown from just two participants to 162, and raised more than $200,000 to support free public Health Screening Clinics and a Men’s Health Voucher programme.Tara Soares, Executive Director of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, said: “The top men’s health issues in Bermuda include diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The growth of a new Mo inspires conversations about these not often talked about topics.”This year, Movember will carry the theme of “Movember and Sons” to recognise the importance of sharing knowledge, especially between fathers and sons. And this year, the Centre hopes to have the Island’s women take part in the campaign by signing up online to be a MoSista.A spokeswoman said: “MoSistas play a vital role in Movember and men’s health. With the simple wink of an eye, small gesture or encouraging words, MoSistas can influence men to participate and grow a Mo. Engaged and dedicated MoSistas can also reach out to other women, making those unaware of the issues surrounding men’s health aware.”Movember officially begins at the Clean Start Shave Off Party on Thursday at Elbow Beach where participants can register and get shaved in advance of a month of growth. The event concludes on November 30 at the MoFinale, also at Elbow Beach, where participants will be honoured for their contributions and glorious facial hair.Categories for prizes include Man of Movember, Miss Movember, Team MoBro, Brushes with Fame, Best Mo in Character, The Lame Mo and the Ultimate Mo.To register, pledge support or learn more, visit www.movember.bm.
