Five leave for Windies

Four of Bermuda's Under-15 cricketers left the Island this morning to join up with the rest of America's Development squad before the start of the U-15 CLICO Tournament in the West Indies.

The young cricketers, Sinclair Smith, who is the vice-captain, Shea Pitcher, Joshua Gilbert and Damali Bell were all selected to represent the America's region, which includes Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Canada, United States and Bermuda.

Group 1 consists of the West Indies, Ireland, Bangladesh and Kenya, who will play in Trinidad.

Group 2 consists of Pakistan, Holland, Malaysia and Americas Dev. XI and will play in Guyana.

The America's side will play a warm-up match against Kenya in Barbados before going to Guyana to face Malaysia, who are replacing Zimbabwe in the tournament.

"I have played against a few of my new team-mates in previous tournaments such the 2005 ICC tournament," said Smith. "They all have good ability and we should do very well.

"We stand a pretty good in winning the whole thing from my eyes, but our biggest competition will be the West Indies, who will have a good side."

On his surprise selection for the vice-captaincy, Smith said he was honoured to be given the job.

"It is an honour to be named to this position," he said. "I didn't really expect it to be honest, but I will definitely take it.

"It is an opportunity I didn't think I would get any time soon, but am thankful for this chance to show my potential."

The youngsters return home on May 5, where they will then go into their respective teams' seasons.
