Faldo puts unwanted mattress up for sale

DO you want to sleep where top golfer Nick Faldo slept . . . or rather where he was going to sleep?

Faldo, who was thinking earlier this year about moving to Bermuda, now seems intent on spending some of his time on the island.

The Englishman, who has won six majors and is currently playing in the fourth major of 2004, the PGA Championship in the US, recently had a load of furnishings for his new home shipped to Bermuda. But apparently he did not like the luxury Stearns and Foster king-size mattress so he is selling it for $2,300 (price negotiable).

Faldo was in Bermuda earlier this year looking at homes and it is believed he picked one out on Trimingham Hill. He can now enjoy a pleasant round of golf with friend and fellow superstar resident Michael Douglas who lives in Warwick with his fellow movie star wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Faldo and Douglas have been spotted playing at the Mid Ocean Club and a source who knows both men said: "I think he enjoyed his time on the course. People knew who he was but didn't bother him at all. I feel that in other countries they would have been hounding him for autographs."

Some years ago another leading golfer ? Nick Price from Zimbabwe ? looked into the idea of buying a home in Bermuda but in the end decided not to. Two-time US Open tennis champion Pat Rafter also lived in Bermuda for a few years.

Late last year Faldo bought Bartragh Island, a 360-acre spectacular duneland property situated near Killala in County Mayo, Ireland. Faldo became a regular visitor to Ireland after he first visited County Mayo in 1997. He was immediately captivated by the island and its dramatic setting.

The 46-year-old, thrice-married former world number one golfer, and now a highly acclaimed course designer, is advertising the mattress in today's classified pages. If you want to buy the mattress you can e-mail sdunningtonnickfaldo.com
