Perfectly engaging: New wedding guide falls for Bermuda's charm

The splendour, unique charm and beauty of a Bermuda wedding will be showcased to thousands of potential visitors.

And if Leslie Hurd and Amy Lilavois of Hurd Publishing have their way, engaged couples will be lured to the Island to stage their own "perfect island wedding''.

After seven years of publishing Dining Out Guides and Wedding Guides on Martha's Vineyard, the Massachusetts pair have decided to turn their attention to producing a comprehensive magazine on Bermuda weddings.

The publication will showcase "stunning'' pictures of the Island and include articles on everything from flowers to menus to help couples plan their own Bermuda wedding.

The magazine will also include individual stories about unique local weddings.

The publication, due to hit store shelves in the late spring, will target East Coast American, Canadian and perhaps even British couples in a bid to entice them to tie-the-knot in Bermuda.

The magazine will not only be of use to visitors; locals will find helpful information and tips on organising their own weddings. Some of the 15,000 to 20,000 copies of the publication will be on sale in Bermuda.

And free copies of Bermuda Wedding will be given to local hotels and guest houses.

Ms Hurd, a frequent visitor to the Island, said she first came up with the idea for the magazine three or four years ago.

And she said she hoped to make the magazine an annual or biannual production.

Ms Hurd added the publication will be almost entirely a local production.

"We're working with the Bermudian community,'' she said. "We're working with local photographers and sales representatives. We're trying to have it all run by Bermudians other than the printing and distribution.

"The goal is not to come in and make a lot of money it's to produce a product that works for Bermuda because I love Bermuda.''
