Longo makes impact at St. Paul

Mr. Longo will oversee the Specialty Excess and Umbrella Unit at The St. Paul.

This unit provides liability protection for businesses involved in legal matters. The limits of liability coverage exceed those provided by primary insurance.

Mr. Longo will also oversee the Surplus Lines Programmes Unit. This unit provides general property/casualty coverage for such businesses as amusement parks, traveling shows and long-haul trucking companies.

Mr. Longo previously worked for the Chubb Corporation, Warren, N.J., for 19 years, including 12 years managing umbrella business.

Most recently, Mr. Longo served as president of Chubb Atlantic in Bermuda.

Over the years, Mr. Longo has held various leadership positions at Chubb such as senior vice president and national excess casualty manager, vice president of casualty, and zone manager for primary and excess casualty.

"We believe there is significant opportunity at this time to expand our specialty excess, umbrella and surplus lines business,'' Mr. Miller said.

"Chris' experience, leadership skills and knowledge of the excess and umbrella marketplace will allow us to grow in this area.'' Mr. Longo's appointment is effective immediately. He will be based in New York City.

The St. Paul Companies is headquartered in Saint Paul, Minn., and provides commercial property-liability insurance and non-life reinsurance worldwide.

The St. Paul reported 1999 revenues of more than $7.5 billion, total assets of $38.9 billion, and is ranked No. 204 on the Fortune 500 list of largest US companies.
