Sherratt on fast forward
through to the semi-finals of the Fast Forward Freight Club Championships at the BSRA in Devonshire.
Sherratt was worked around the court by quarter-final opponent Jan Brewer, who showed a wide variety of shots, but he was equal to the task, using his superior skill to win the match 3-0.
In another quarter-final, Mel Caines defeated Richard Brewer in a close four-game match. Brewer played well to put Caines under pressure, causing him to lose his cool with the referee.
Ultimately though, Caines kept his temper under control and took the match 9-7 9-7 5-9 9-3.
Match of the round in the men's first division was Tony Puplett versus Phil Barnes. Barnes had match point in the third game after taking the first two 10-8 10-9. But Puplett rallied to take that game 10-9 and the next 9-3.
Barnes recovered his composure to take a big lead and at one point had two match points, but Puplett staged another comeback, saving a total of three match points before taking the match himself 10-8.
The ladies veterans category also produced an excellent contest when number two seed Christine Barnes met number three Val Protheroe. Protheroe showed no ill effects of celebrating her birthday the night before as she displayed speed and agility. But Barnes' deft touch and racquet skill got her through in the end, 10-8 9-5 9-10 10-8.
The men's veterans final will be between John Stout and Bob Stewart after Stout overcame Phil Spencer in their semi-final.
The ladies' division two final has also been decided with Alison Cameron set to play Julie Greaves tomorrow.
In the division three final Susan Ripley will meet Vanessa Lovell. All other semi-finals will be played tonight, starting at 6.00 p.m.
