Island pair place second
Although top Bermudian anglers Bobby Rego and Danny Fox failed to repeat their winning exploits of a year ago at the 14th edition of the Key West International Tournament in Miami, Florida, the local team didn't come away empty handed.
Bermuda's pair of Keith Winter and Andy Down secured the runner's-up spot in the 16-team entry.
The Island duo managed a combined points total of 38,555, while Bermuda's husband/wife team of Peter and Cindy Mitchell placed fourth with Peter boating the tournament's only sailfish.
His wife landed two tarpon within the space of an hour to add to their overall tally.
Winter was the Island's top angler and fourth overall, grossing an impressive 20,210 points.
Last year's winners Rego and Fox placed seventh, while the remainder of the local contingent consisting of Mark and Mark Mitchell, Crayton Greene and Francis Patterson placed eighth and ninth respectively.
Bahamas took overall top honours after the Caribbean pair of Ralph Eickelbeck and Colin Rose steamed away with a huge total of 46,058 points, while their compatriots Jamie Rose and David Finland grabbed third place honours.
All boats fished for blackfin tuna behind the shrimp boats which were anchored in the Gulf Stream some 40-50 miles from Key West.
The tuna proved particularly difficult on 6-lb test as many were in the 25 to 30-lb range.
