Cox in London for first overseas engagement as Premier

In her first trip overseas on official business, Premier Paula Cox travelled to London on Sunday night, along with new Cabinet Secretary Donald Scott, for a series of meetings on Bermuda's relationship with the UK.

She met yesterday with the United Kingdom Overseas Territories Association leaders to discuss issues of common interest, in advance of tomorrow's annual meeting of the Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC).

The Premier then cut the ribbon at Bermuda's new Civil Aviation facility in London. She joined Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Department of Civil Aviation Director Thomas Dunstan in officially opening the Department's satellite office at the Bermuda Government's London Office.

The new DCA office is intended to strengthen Bermuda's service to international clients.

Today, Ms Cox is scheduled is to meet the Britain/Bermuda All Party Parliamentary Group for talks on their efforts promoting Bermuda.

The OTCC meeting tomorrow will be chaired by the UK Minister for Overseas Territories Henry Bellingham. Ms Cox plans to discuss the Island's interests with the Minister and other policy leaders. Separate bilateral meetings have been planned with Mr Bellingham.

Also on the agenda for the OTCC meeting is a discussion of Britain's relationship with its Overseas Territories; the new strategy for the Territories; criminal justice systems; aviation and maritime transport, and issues relating to the environment. Ms Cox also plans to lead a final session on identity and passport services.
