Bermudian to make feature film debut
A local artist will make his feature film debut this weekend in the Bermuda International Film Festival and the public are encouraged to attend and support him. Bill Ming, who was born in Bermuda and is an internationally renowned sculptor, was chosen by the Bermuda Government to create a memorial titled ‘Figurehead’ following the loss of four lives in Hurricane Fabian in 2004.
The film directed by Andy Mckay, ‘Bill Ming: Stories of Wood, Wind and Fire’, documents the creation of Mr. Ming’s 18-foot, 12-ton bronze sculpture as well as paints a picture of Mr. Ming’s life.
An introduction by the Premier Ewart Brown accompanies the film, which will premiere on Sunday, March 18 at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
The Ministry of Tourism and Transport is encouraging the public to support the film and will be hosting a reception at 2.45 p.m. on Sunday for those who have tickets for the premiere. Premier Brown added: “Over the course of his life, we have watched with pride as Bill has risen to the height of success within the international art community. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of the organisers at BIFF for including this wonderful film in their line-up this year.”
