Bermuda go down against Sri Lanka
Bermuda's national squash team tripped up against Sri Lanka in the final match of their World Men's Team Championships in Chennai, India.
Chase Toogood was defeated by Saman Thilakaratna 11-5, 11-9, 11-5, while Mel Caines lost to Navin Samarasinghe 11-3, 11-2, 11-4 yesterday.
The team, which also included 17-year-old Robert Maycock, finished 26th out of 29 nations.
England retained their title after beating old rivals Australia 2-1 in an exciting final. Former World Open champion and part-time Bermuda resident David Palmer raised the hopes of eight-times winners Australia when he wore down Nick Matthew 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 2-11, 11-4.
But James Willstrop pulled second seeds England level when he defeated Stewart Boswell 11-8, 11-7, 12-10, leaving Peter Barker to clinch the match with a 11-6, 11-3, 11-8 win over Cameron Pilley in the decider.
England won their sixth title in the biennial event to equal Pakistan's record with only Australia still ahead.
