New BAC building reaches roof-wetting stage
Mills Creek Properties Ltd. has held the customary roof wetting ceremony on its new 77,500-square foot building in Mill Reach Lane, Pembroke.
Designed by Bermudian architectural firm Linberg & Simmons, the six-story building will be ready for occupancy by early summer.
The project is being managed by Atlantic Building Consultants Ltd., with the construction led by Somers Construction Ltd.
Mills Creek Properties, which is a subsidiary of Bermuda Air Conditioning Ltd., broke ground on the new building one year ago.
James Gibbons, president of BAC Ltd., who was at the event, said: "The roof wetting ceremony brings to a close what has been an exciting commercial development project for BAC. The building was completed with environmental sustainability in mind, and honours our commitment to build with 'green' alternatives wherever possible.
"Thank you to all our partners in this project - we couldn't have done it without you."
The ground level and first and second floors will be used by BAC Ltd. and the third and fourth floors each contain some 11,360 square feet of net warehouse space that will be available to rent in early 2010.
The top level of the building will contain studio apartments for short-term BAC employees. Solar panels located on the building's roof will produce all the hot water for the 19 apartments.
