Bermuda set to stage 'Change our World' event

The Centre on Philanthropy is to host a two-day conference next month for charity leaders here and abroad.Ten local presenters and 18 from the US, Canada and the UK will participate in the Changing our World conference.The centre’s programme director, Danielle Riviere, told Hamilton Rotary Club yesterday the Changing our World conference is aimed at creating “a better community, a better Bermuda, a better world”.Non-profit organisations and religious groups as well as representatives from foundations and companies have been invited to attend 25 workshops and four plenary sessions.The Centre held similar conferences in 2007 and 2009.Overseas presenters will include TV presenter Jeff Salz; Carol Weisman, president of the charity Board Builders; Tony Elischer, founder of the non-profit company THINK and Ann Cramer, director for corporate citizenship and corporate affairs at IBM.Ms Riviere said: “These speakers, plus others from organisations including Idealware, Blackbaud, the Building Movement and KPMG, will ensure that attendees will leave enlightened, informed and motivated to keep doing their good work.“In addition, especially given the economic environment, all will be encouraged to think outside the box when looking for solutions to current issues, and to do so together.”She added: “Faith organisations will be excited to hear from Sherrye Willis, founder of Faith and Philanthropy Institute. Sherrye will speak to faith-based organisations about starting community ministries, and will conduct a two-part session on building fundable faith-based organisations.”The Centre on Philanthropy also celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The conference will be held February 24 through 26 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
