Special treat in store in Mother?s Day show

In celebration of mothers and Mother?s Day, Secrets lingerie shop are hosting a fashion show like no other.

The event at Snorkel Park on Saturday night will be for women only while the all-male models will be wearing a selection of items from boutiques Secrets, Shannon?s and Heads Up.

Secrets? owner Stacey Hill said she has wanted to do this particular show for a few years, but until now hadn?t been able to put it together.

?I decided that I was doing it this year,? she said.

?I decided to do it on the Saturday night before Mother?s Day because most mothers want to spend the Sunday with their families, which is understandable. And they can go to brunch and all that.

?For the last couple of years we were having shows for an all-male audience only, but the girls were like, ?when are you going to have something for us??

?And Mother?s Day is an ideal time when you want to do something special. This show is for an all-female audience ? no men allowed, no photography devices and no one under 21.?

Some of her models are average guys on the street, while others have modelled professionally before..

?If I saw a guy walking, I?d ask does he model and he?d be like, ?no.?

?Then I?d ask if they would consider modelling and they would ask what they had to model. When I interviewed them I would ask are they a shy person or more outgoing and I also asked whether they would wear a thong and a lot of them laughed.

?So we have a mixture of guys from all races and they are buff. Their ages range from 21 to 38 and there are 20 guys in all.?

Mrs Hill has flatly refused to reveal the identity of the models involved in the show.

?We have had women coming or calling here saying that they want to know which models are in the show,? she said while insisting the identities were to be kept a secret.

?I am like, ?no, but I can assure you that you will be happy ? you will not be disappointed?. We had a show at Docksiders for Valentine?s Day and we had five guys modelling wraps, thongs, silk boxers ? some of those guys will be in this show. It is going to be good.?

?Years ago we did a men?s show at Clay House Inn, and you know that has been gone for a long time, and that was so much fun. But this is going to be on a larger scale.?

When asked how did a conservative woman get into selling lingerie and toys, she exclaimed: ?Girl, I never thought I?d be selling lingerie in my life!

?When I came back from university, I knew I wanted to have my own shop and be a buyer, and at the time I was working for a company and I wasn?t happy.

?So there was an ad in the paper about a new store looking for a manager. I didn?t know what I was applying for, but I applied.

?Then the lady told me I had the job and she told me that they were opening up a lingerie business. I started on the first day. I was the manager and I was doing the buying and stuff.?

The owner of that store was an older lady whose daughter owned Shannon?s Boutique.

?After six years she asked if I was interested in buying the store and I said, ?well, I am broke,? recalled Mrs. Hill.

She talked it over with her family and they suggested that they put up their house as collateral so that she could buy the business and she has not looked back since.

?My sister said, ?the worst you can do is fail and if that happens you can go and work for somebody else.?

?And I thought, ?she?s right?. I have definitely been blessed.

?I have great staff and I don?t have to worry and the business takes care of itself.?

A couple of weeks ago Mrs. Hill sent out an e-mail and immediately people were calling to find out whether tickets were on sale.

?One girl called because she said she was working that night and she needed to make sure that she was off,? said Mrs. Hill.

?Women are just waiting and happy. We are doing a suit scene from Shannon?s Boutique, Hip Hop wear from Heads Up, a new shop in Ord Road, and everything else is from here.

?We are doing a dominatrix scene with black leathery stuff, whips and chains, and we will do a silk scene which is sexy, pyjamas and then occupations like firemen and a boxer.

?We are going to have a little special event for the ladies but I can?t reveal what it is.?

The event takes place at Snorkel Park, under a tented area. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at Secrets in the Washington Mall.
