The future of insurance-linked securities will be just one of the main topics up for debate at a top conference held in Bermuda this week.

The 8th Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) Summit, which is being hosted at the Fairmont Southampton and started yesterday through to tomorrow, will feature a range of seminars, key-note speeches and panel discussions.

Kicking off the first day proper today will be the opening keynote address entitled 'Dealing with the Extra-ordinary' by Dr. Erwann Michel-Kerjan, managing director of the Risk Management and Decision Processes Centre at the Wharton Business School, who will speak about understanding new risk architecture, considerations on the future of ILS and other forms of alternative risk transfer and the World Economic Forum-Wharton initiative on Global Risks.

His talk will be followed by a panel debate on 'Educating Institutional Investors: Strategies for Conveying the ILS Value Proposition to Non-Specialist Investment Audiences', and then a session featuring 'Forecasting Future Issuance Volumes: Sponsor Perspectives on the Desirability of ILS and its Relationship with Traditional Reinsurance', which includes Mark Van Zanden, business group leader, outwards reinsurance at Catlin, and Kai Morgenstern, vice-president at Renaissance Re.
