Zebras hanging on!

PHC were left hanging on to First Division survival by a thread after grabbing a vital point against an impressive Dandy Town side at PHC Stadium yesterday.

Brian Anderson volleyed home through a crowd of players from eight yards after Antoine Lightbourne had punched weakly at Anwar Hunt's hanging 15th minute corner.

But the goal, equalising Damon Ming's superb eighth minute shot from 22 yards, failed to provide the home team with the necessary boost to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Instead Town, who dominated the first half and had a fair share of possession in an increasingly frantic second, will have been disappointed not to have taken more fullsome advantage of the acres of room allowed to Paul Cann and Ming on either flank.

Almost at will, Kris Martin, playing in central midfield, was able to float balls out to his colleagues.

Cann displayed brilliant trickery to get round Roderick Lewis on the right edge of the box in the 24th minute, but Chris Anderson could not get enough of a boot on his cross to direct it goalwards.

And Ellsworth Bean had to be alert to clear from Anderson and dive bravely at the feet of Reginald Tucker as Town sought to regain the lead.

Ricky Mallory, playing up front in an attempt to increase PHC's firepower, was seeing little of the ball and had to go back into his own half to start a promising move which he completed with a skewed shot after getting the ball back from Stanton Lewis.

And although he, Desmond Burgess and Stanton Lewis all managed to get into position for headers late on, none had the power or accuracy to beat a well-positioned Lightbourne.

PHC boss Cecil Robinson was disappointed not to get the three points but felt his side was not at their best.

"I felt we could have played a bit better,'' he said. "We started a bit slowly and didn't quite have the aggression we should have. We fell a bit flat at the end because we really wanted to win. But having heard Hotels lost, we're still in with a fighting chance.''
