Well-known calypsonian Ross Talbot has had a golf tournament named in his honour and the entertainer was a member of the two-man winning team of the
One of the two surviving members of the popular Talbot Brothers band, Ross and his teammate Ricky Swan won the two-ball event which was organised to celebrate Ross Talbot's 75th birthday.
The tournament, officially called The Ross (Blackie) Talbot tournament, was thought of by family members as a means of honouring the keen golfer and fisherman and the proceeds of $500 was donated to Summerhaven.
One of the organisers, Ross' son Clement, said that because the response from the public was so great plans are to have it annually.
"We only came up with the idea of a golf tournament for charity just a few days before his birthday and the response was simply overwhelming,'' said Clement Talbot. "We definitely intend to make it an annual affair.'' Among the 28 players participating were Fritz Reiter, Danny Fagundo, Austin Woods, Millard Beach, John McFaul, Leon Nearon and Altimont Roberts.
BASKETBALL BAS The Bermuda Basketball Association will be holding a series of all-star games at BAA gymnasium tomorrow involving both high school students and adults.

SOFTBALL SOF PCC Royals will be having softball training at West Pembroke School on Monday starting at 6.30 p.m. Anyone interested in representing the team this coming season are to attend with their full training kit.
GENERAL SP All members of the North Village soccer, netball and hockey teams are asked to meet at the club on Sunday at 11 a.m. to display and give thanks for the trophies won this season.
Following at 1.15 p.m. at Bernard Park, Village's First Division, Alliance Division, Commercial Division and youth Premier Division sides will take part in the Glenn (Flappers) Smith Cup tournament.

YOUTH BASEBALL BB Play continued on in the Bermuda Youth Sports Program Baseball Leagues on Wednesday with five matches played.
In Rookie League action Royals blasted Mets 10-6 to move to 2-0 on the new season. They were joined by Phillies (2-0) and Reds (2-0), who downed Pirates (0-2) and Mariners (0-2) 3-1 and 5-0 respectively.
Meanwhile, Cardinals evened their record at 1-1 on the strength of a 19-6 victory over Mariners in Little League play, but it was Reds (2-0) moving into sole possession of first place as they beat Pirates.
