Kent Simmons of the Bermuda Karate Institute competed at the Twin Towers International Classic Karate tournament in New York on Sunday, placing second in two categories.
In the senior forms, weapons and sparring categories in traditional forms (over 43) Simmons placed second but he failed to make the finals in weapons for over 35s.
In sparring, Simmons also placed second, the first place winner being carried out on a stretcher after Simmons blocked his heel kick with a palm heel strike. Earlier in the match when his opponent made face contact, which drew blood, the judging panel failed to enforce the Naska rule which makes this grounds for disqualification.
