Ministry ironing out e-curriculum kinks: Christopher
The Ministry of Education?s plan for an online curriculum programme throughout the Island?s Middle Schools will soon become a reality.
Whitney Middle School pioneered its use and has reported considerable benefits to teachers and students since it went online more than a year ago.
The online curriculum, scheduled to begin Island-wide during the next school year, is designed to ensure that the content is appropriate to local needs.Mathematics and English Language Arts will be the first subjects online and teachers will have full access to the system throughout the summer.
Government will also work with Education Officers to ensure that it is in full alignment with the objectives of the local curriculum.
A local online curriculum for Social Studies, Sciences, and other subjects is a two-year plan that will be drafted by the Ministry of Education. ?This is an exciting time in public education,? said Chief Education Officer Dr. Joseph Christopher.
?The e-school initiative will use technology to maximise student learning and free up teachers? time to focus on those students needing extra attention.?
The Ministry of Education and Development has been working to iron out any possible kinks before a system wide rollout.
?We are confident that we have the right approach going forward with this innovative additional resource for the education of our students,? Dr. Christopher said.
