A man accused of repeated cheque fraud has been remanded in custody, pending trial in Magistrates’ Court.

Jahroy Simons, 27, denied repeatedly altering cheques and cashing them at local businesses.

The Southampton resident is accused of a spree of offences in September and October, all with cheques stolen from a Wesley Kennedy.

Crown counsel Susan Mulligan gave the nominal value of the cheques as 20 cents — the cost of their paper and printing.

Mr Simons denied receiving HSBC cheques that he knew were stolen between an unknown September date and various dates in October.

He also pleaded not guilty to using a false cheque worth $2,965 at Crisson’s jewellery store in Pembroke on October 26.

Other charges included cashing fake cheques for $400 and $280 at Bermuda Financial Network on October 16, followed by cheques for $300 and $277 at MarketPlace Shopping Centre in Pembroke on October 23 and 24.

He is also accused of defrauding MarketPlace, this time for $290, on October 29.

Mr Simons denied all charges. Ms Mulligan told the court the alleged offences had occurred while Mr Simons was on bail.

She added that some of the charges will be joined with two other defendants.

Mr Warner ordered Mr Simons be held until a February 11 trial date.
