Maximart sold to Arnold group
owns two West End grocery stores.
Mr. Frank Arnold, whose family already owns Arnold's Supermarket and the Hitching Post in Somerset, plans major renovations for the 3,400 square foot operation.
Terms were not disclosed for the sale of the business and building, which were previously owned by Mr. Peter Reiderer. The deal was brokered by Capcar Enterprises.
Mr. Arnold said full ownership of the business will be a "challenge'', but commented "the customer will benefit''.
And despite his age, 25, he has many years experience in the supermarket business. While growing up, he said he spent many after school hours and Saturday afternoons working in the family business.
His father, the late Mr. Ferdinand Arnold, started Arnold's Hitching Post and Arnold's Supermarket, both also located in Somerset.
Mr. Barry Capuano, president of Capcar, the firm which brokered the sale, said Mr. Arnold plans to offer some new and different specialty items. Mr. Arnold officially took ownership Tuesday of the 3,400 square foot store.
Mr. Arnold "works on the premise the customer is always right'', said Mr.
Capuano.
The new owner plans building renovations soon. Once began, they are expected to be completed in about two years.
Mr. Riederer could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Mr. Capuano's partner, Mr. Paul Card, affiliated with Dorchester Realty, handled the sale of the real estate.
The sale is the second purchase of an independent grocery store this week. On Wednesday, the MarketPlace group bought the Shopping Centre in Hamilton.
