Lawrence dominates in St David’s

Shannon Lawrence was at his best yesterday as he strolled to victory in the Men’s Open division at the Bermuda Bicycle Association’s time-trial in St David’s.

The National time-trial champion completed the 8.7-mile course in 23 minutes and 0.87 seconds, more than five seconds ahead of second place Dominique Mayho, who finished in 23min 6.39secs. Mark Hatherley rounded out the top three in 24min 39.75secs.

In the Male Veteran category, Geoff Smith put in a dominant performance to win in 24min 6.54secs, which was the third fastest time overall.

Neil de ste Croix, 25mins 30.5secs, and Mark Wilcox, 25min 40.54secs, were second and third.

Belinda Castree took top honours in the Female Open category in 28mins 19.65secs. She beat April Galda-Joyce, 29mins 24.86secs, and Zoe Roberts, 31mins 47.96secs, with the pair rounding out the podium places.

The Female Veterans section was won by Heather Cooper in 28mins 59.35secs. Second went to Wenda Roberts, 30mins 40.36secs, while third was claimed by Andrea Proctor, 31mins 48.45secs.

Justin Ferreira won the 15 to 16 male category, while Victoria Davis won the 15 to 16 girls’ division.

Matthew Oliviera showed his class by winning the 13 to 14 male category, and Alyssa Rowse was just as dominant in the 13 to 14 girls’ section.

Julianne Oatley and Nahje’ Smith won the girls’ and boys’ 11 to 12 age group respectively, while the ten and under winner was Adrian McPhee.
