Bermuda win two golds and silver at Caribbean Champs
Bermuda started what was expected to be a trophy-laden Caribbean Championships in fantastic style by winning three medals on the opening day of competition in Dominican Republic.
Kaden Hopkins, who briefly led the world championship road race in Montreal, a couple of weeks ago led the way with victory in the men’s elite time-trial
Hopkins secured the gold medal in a time of 42min 3.239sec, beating compatriot Nicholas Narraway, who claimed the silver medal, by nearly a minute, with Bermuda claming the top two places.
Charlotte Millington won gold in the women’s under-23 time-trial, recording a time of 31:45.034. That was also good enough to finishing fifth in the overall women’s standings, one spot behind Gabriella Arnold (31:19.995), who agonisingly just missed out on a medal when placing fourth overall.
The results give Bermuda a strong start to the championships, with all eight team members set to compete in the road races on Sunday.
Conor White, Dominique Mayho and Alexander Miller will join Hopkins and Narraway in the men’s road race. Panzy Olander will join Arnold and Millington in the women’s road race.
