Devonshire Rec, 113 all out, beat Western Stars, 92 all out, by –21 runsDevonshire Rec won the Central Counties Cup with the 21 run win over Western Stars at the Devonshire Rec on Saturday.In what turned out to be a low scoring affair in the first and only Central Counties tie after Young Men’s Social Club pulled out, Devonshire had several individuals step up to the plate.Losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Devonshire were on the back foot early on after losing two wickets with the score on 24, with both openers Keishen Smith (10) and Sinclair Gibbons (9) heading back to the pavilion in quick succession.Ricardo Brangman jr. (4) followed shortly after with the score on 28, bringing younger brother Derrick to the crease.The younger Brangman (25) and Pierre Smith (4) helped rebuild the innings, putting on 37 runs for the fourth wicket before the skipper departed with the score on 65.Devonshire then slumped again, losing three wickets for 14 runs, falling to 75 for six to leave them in dire straits.But at least Ricardo Brangman sr., scoring 15, helped them post a low, but defendable total.Akeem Talbot was the chief wicket taker for Stars, snatching five wickets for 27 runs, including four of the last five to be claimed.Treadwell Gibbons jr. grabbed two scalps to help in the bowling department.In the end, the total of 113 in 31.2 overs was just enough to achieve the win, with Stars all-out for 92.Herbie Bascome led the bowling attack, claiming both openers Maurice Lowe (0) and Tre Manders (3) cheaply.Kameron Fox then removed Gibbons for 19, before Bascome returned to grab the scalp of Nakia Smith to leave Stars in all sorts of trouble at 40 for four.Skipper Brangman got Brian Hall (25) to all but end the game as a competition with the host’s looking to clean up the tail with minimal fuss.Brangman sr. took three wickets, as did fellow veteran Bascome, seeing off Andre Manders (13), Wayne Campbell (3), and Talbot (1).Wilbur Burt also chipped in with one wicket as Stars were bowled out in 40 overs.
