And now the 30-year-old Devonshire labourer has a prison sentence hanging over him.

DeSilva, of Green Acres Road, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis gave him a six-month prison sentence, suspended for a year.

He also bound DeSilva over for 12 months in the sum of $500 after he admitted behaving in a way likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said DeSilva's sister called Police to Green Acres Road at about 1 a.m. on Monday this week.

She complained her brother had acted up after returning home, and had thrown the stereo system on the ground.

Police noticed DeSilva had a beer in one hand and appeared under the influence of alcohol.

He was swearing, and picked up a kitchen knife after refusing to leave, said Sgt. Osborne.

DeSilva was eventually taken to the Police station, he added.

DeSilva told Mr. Francis the row was over the family car.

"My sister had an attitude,'' he said.

CHEF BANNED AFTER `A FEW BEERS' CTS A Swiss chef has been disqualified from driving for a year for riding his motorcycle after a "few beers''.

Patrick Pierre Nicklaus, a chef at a local hotel, was stopped by Police on South Road in Southampton, on December 10.

Nicklaus, 43, of Dunscombe Road, Warwick, smelled of liquor and appeared unsteady on his feet.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said on being arrested Nicklaus told Police he had had a long day and had been drinking a few beers. He was tested and found to be twice the legal limit.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined the Nicklaus $400 and banned him for a year.

Mr. Francis also banned Christopher Scales for six months and fined him a total of $900 for traffic offences. Scales, 26, of Ratteray Lane, Sandys, was stopped by Police for travelling at 65 kph. He admitted having no driving licence, no insurance and no vehicle licence.

DRINK DRIVE FIGURES DOWN CRM The "don't drink and drive'' message is getting home -- slowly, Police figures show.

Last year 272 people were arrested for drink-driving. That is a four percent drop on 1992's figure of 283.

Of those arrested in 1993, 190 failed the alco-analyser test, 43 passed, and 39 refused to take it.

The top reading was 200 milligrams of alcohol -- just over double the legal limit.

And the oldest driver was 74. His reading was 177 milligrams.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said 130 motorcyclists and 116 car drivers were among those arrested.

"But the figures also include two operators of marine vessels who were operating boats whilst under the influence of alcohol,'' he added.

ARRIVALS DROP TOU The weekend disruption of Bermuda-United States flights is reflected in latest tourist arrival figures.

Just 1,553 people flew into the Island between January 3 and 9.

That is 13.7 percent down on the 1,800 who came during the same week in 1993.

So far this year, 1,939 have flown here -- a 14.2 percent drop on last year.

The drop in arrivals comes after ice and snow forced the weekend cancellation of flights between Bermuda and the eastern States.

Flights returned to normal on Monday.

TOOLS STOLEN CRM Thieves broke into a Devonshire cottage and escaped with a $380 haul, including an electric drill, pipe cutters, and other tools.

They entered the Frog Lane property over the weekend by smashing a glass pane in the front door.
