Clubs compensated for players' loss
and Sherritt Hewey during the 1992-93 soccer season.
The Bermuda Football Association has ruled in favour of clubs objecting to the transfer moves, meaning that each will be the recipient of the $2,500 compensation fee awarded when a player is lost after coming up through their junior ranks.
St. David's will also have to dig into their pockets for the services of Sean Smith who will give the east enders an added boost following their promotion to the First Division.
The clubs who will benefit from the BFA's rulings are Somerset Cricket Club, who objected against the move of defender Roberts to Vasco; North Village, who filed against forward Hewey going to Vasco; and Dandy Town, who appealed against utility player Smith moving on to St. David's.
However, not all of the objections lodged were successful -- including two by Devonshire Cougars against the moves of national team centre-back Shawn Smith, now on professional trials in England (see separate story, below), to North Village; and Stevie Wade to Dandy Town.
Objections to the transfers were not heard as representatives from Devonshire Rec. failed to turn up at the meeting to plead their case While their objection to Roberts' move was upheld, Somerset CC were not so lucky in blocking the move of national youth team goalkeeper Ricardo Tucker to Dandy Town.
The BFA ruled that since Tucker hadn't played a single senior game with the west enders they had no legitimate grounds for compensation under the transfer ruling and therefore the player could move on to his new team.
Much consideration was given to objections filed by Hamilton International and BAA against the transfers of Walter Musson and Kent Martin respectively. In both transactions the players were attempting to rejoin Dandy Town.
The objecting clubs said they had got limited service from the two players after paying $2,500 for their transfers.
A ban on Musson prevented him from making regular appearances for Hamilton International last season, while Martin played in only four matches because of an injury.
The BFA ruled against the two clubs, concluding that the right to object could only be applied when a player seeking a transfer had come up through a club's junior programme.
Team Champion hammered Forties 5-1 and Dandy Town beat Team Iraklis 2-0 in the two matches in the Kenny Thompson seven-a-side soccer tournament on Monday night at Southampton Glebe.
Otis Steede scored twice and Craig Darrell, Maceo Dill and Eddie Bean got one each for Team Champion as Steve Cotton replied for Forties.
Troy Lewis and Khari Sharieff scored the Dandy Town goals in their win over Team Iraklis.
WINNERS AND LOSERS -- North Village will receive $2,500 compensation for theloss of forward sherritt Hewey (right) to Vasco, but Devonshire Cougars will receive no pay-out for the departure of national team centre back Shawn Smith (left) to North Village.
