Two from two for de Ste Croix
Neil de Ste Croix took full –advantage of a series of crashes to claim the second race in the Conrad’s Mountain Biking –Series. The veteran mountain biker led from start to finish in the Men’s A event at Fort Scaur as, first, Mark Hatherley, and then Grant Goudge crashed on the tricky circuit.Making his first appearance of the season, Hatherley had been one of the favourites to win the stage this past weekend, but he flatted out on the first lap, and had to settle for being a willing chaser.De Ste Croix and Goudge slowly built a lead over the rest of the small field until Goudge lost his concentration, lost control of his bike, and crashed, allowing de Ste Croix to pull clear.Goudge crashed again as he tried desperately to make up some of the lost ground, and de Ste Croix eventually won –comfortably, with Goudge –second, and Peter Dunne third. In the Men’s B event, Dexter Swan again dominated –proceedings, with Hans Hirshi beating out Scott Mello for –second.Daniel and Christian Oatley were the winners in the junior categories. The Conrad’s series next moves to Admiralty Park on Sunday, starting at 9:15am.Anyone interested in –participating in the Bermuda Bicycle Association’s races are welcome to come along.
